LaVall Jordan approaches his hectic initial hours at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with friendly, firm handshakes and broad, easy smiles. Itβs been a whirlwind of meetings and greetings for the 36-year-old, first-time head coach, but he steps into his role leading 51ΑΤΖζβs menβs team with confidence born of a well-traveled basketball path.
It has been a journey of embracing communities, starting with his small Michigan hometown of Albion, then playing and coaching at the hoops hotbed of Butler University, and later coaching in proud programs at the University of Iowa and the University of Michigan.
And it has been a journey of success, particularly during the past six years on coach John Beileinβs Michigan staff, including five NCAA Tournament appearances and a runner-up finish in 2013.
βThereβs a pride in being a part of it, and that same feeling drew me here,β Jordan said. βSo Iβm excited to lead the charge and have the community behind us.β
That attitude is a cornerstone of his vision for the Panthers, not just within the locker room and on the court, but throughout the campus and fan base.
βI saw guys do something, and it made me dream,β Jordan said. βMy hope is that someone seeing me in this position makes them dream, and lets them know that anything is possible.β
