Dr. Joan Prince, a former vice chancellor of global inclusion and engagement at 51ΑΤΖζ whose distinguished career also includes service at the United Nations, has been appointed to the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents.
A Milwaukee native, Prince is a four-time graduate of 51ΑΤΖζ. In 2012, President Barack Obama nominated Prince as an alternate representative to the 67th General Assembly of the United Nations, with the honorary rank of ambassador. She also served as a member of the 2013 United States delegation to the Commission on the Status of Women.
Prince retired from 51ΑΤΖζ in 2021 following a two-decade tenure as vice chancellor. She was known as a tireless supporter for the inclusion of all students, faculty and staff in driving 51ΑΤΖζβs dual access and research missions.

Prince arrived at 51ΑΤΖζ at age 16 as a freshman and earned bachelorβs degrees in general studies and medical technology, a masterβs degree in clinical laboratory sciences and a doctorate in urban education with a focus on STEM education.
βAfter having the privilege and honor of receiving four degrees from the University of Wisconsin System, I know firsthand the level of academic excellence as well as the life-changing impact that this distinguished institution has on all that pass through its doors,β Prince said. βIt will be my honor and privilege to serve and support the facility, staff and students on behalf of our state.β
Prince replaces Tracey Klien, who resigned in June, citing professional obligations.
