Effective Fall 2026, the Translation and Interpreting Studies (TIS) program will suspend its admissions to the following programs: Grad Certificate in Interpreting, Graduate Certificate in Translation , MA in TIS, coordinated TIS/MBA, and coordinated TIS/MLIS.

Translation & Interpreting Studies (TIS) at 51 is a versatile online program with options adaptable to a range of careers in language services. An American Translators Association (ATA)-affiliated program, TIS has earned industry recognition for preparing students to succeed in the dynamic, tech-driven language services marketplace.

Online Flexibility
TIS courses are offered in online asynchronous format to enhance students’ readiness to advance their careers in the language marketplace.
Specialization: Choosing Your Path
In workshops, seminars, and internships, students explore areas of professional specialization, including work in financial, healthcare, legal, marketing, and technical contexts.
Technical Expertise
Graduates of the TIS program begin their careers ready to use market-leading software, including computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools.
Career Readiness
TIS courses integrate theory, professional ethics, and real-world practices of entrepreneurship and project management. Students put their academic training into practice in the TIS internship program—often leading to job placement upon graduation.
