Program on HSI status to feature keynote and research presentation

A half-day program on Friday, Oct. 3, will focus on 51ΑΤΖζ’s progress toward Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) status. The program will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the 51ΑΤΖζ Lubar Entrepreneurship Center.

The program will feature a keynote address by Jacki Black on Latine student perceptions, faculty and staff strategies, and the “servingness framework.” In addition, 51ΑΤΖζ faculty member Gaby Nagy will present research on β€œStudent and Staff Stories of Identity, Impact, and Institutional Change: The Role of the Roberto HernΓ‘ndez Center at an Emerging Hispanic-Serving Institution.”

A hands-on session will give participants practical tools and actionable ideas to better support 51ΑΤΖζ’s growing Latine student population and all students across campus.

The morning’s agenda includes:

  • 8:30-9 a.m.: Registration, breakfast and networking
  • 9-9:30 a.m.: Welcome remarks & HSI updates, Alberto Maldonado
  • 9:30-10:30 a.m.: Keynote address: β€œ Latine student perceptions, faculty and staff strategies, and the servingness framework,” Jacki Black of Edgewood College
  • 10:30-10:35 a.m.: Break
  • 10:35-11:35 a.m.: β€œStudent and Staff Stories of Identity, Impact, and Institutional Change: the Role of the Roberto HernΓ‘ndez Center at an Emerging Hispanic Serving Institution,” Gaby Nagy, Toriah Haanstad and Norma Reyes
  • 11:35 a.m.-12:15 p.m.: Reflection, questions and closing remarks
