Festival of Books features several with 51ΑΤΖζ connections

Several people associated with 51ΑΤΖζ will be part of the 12th annual Southeast Wisconsin Festival of Books Nov. 5 and 6 at 51ΑΤΖζ at Waukesha.

Simon Bronner, dean of the 51ΑΤΖζ College of General Studies, and 51ΑΤΖζ grad Willa Richards will be part of a panel talking about how history inspires their work. β€œLiterature of the Past – History Tells our Future,” is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 6, and will be moderated by Jonathon Kasparek, a history professor at 51ΑΤΖζ at Waukesha.

Bronner, dean of the 51ΑΤΖζ College of General Studies, has written numerous works on culture and history and is editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of American Studies online for Johns Hopkins University Press.

Richards is the author of the novel β€œThe Comfort of Monsters,” published earlier this year. She completed her doctorate in creative writing at 51ΑΤΖζ in 2019. She’s also a graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, where she was a Truman Capote Fellow.

Marlin Johnson, emeritus professor of biology at 51ΑΤΖζ at Waukesha, will moderate the panel β€œLiterature of Our Planet – Wrap Our World with Words” from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 6.

The event, a project of the 51ΑΤΖζ at Waukesha Foundation, traditionally brings the community together to encourage literacy, author-to-reader collaboration and creativity through arts and entertainment.

For the second year in a row, the festival will be streaming through its partners, Books & Company of Oconomowoc and MC Services of Pewaukee. This year’s theme, β€œPages, Passports & Portals,” will cover programs on travel, nature/environment, history and Wisconsin.
