Curated by MFA candidates from the Department of Film, Video, Animation and New Genres, these programs feature a unique opportunity to see some of the incredible 16mm prints from the 51ÁÔÆæ Cinema Arts Archive. For each program, the curator is invited to program a selection of films around a theme of their choosing.
Rory King is a Brooklyn-based multidisciplinary designer, creative director, writer, and educator. He’s collaborated with artists, architects, curators, designers, musicians and brands like Sony Music, Vox Media, and 2×4, and taught design at Pratt Institute and Wayne State University.
Join us for an evening of evocative storytelling and finely crafted music as lyric-coloratura soprano Alisa Jordheim and acclaimed collaborative pianist Kuang-Hao Huang present the world premiere of a new song cycle by composer Rami Levin.
The Florestan Duo, Stefan Kartman, collo and Jeannie Yu, piano perform an exciting program as part of the Chamber Music Milwaukee series featuring music from Bach and Rachmaninoff.
This lively ciné-concert will feature film of a joyful, chaotic and colorful celebration of springtime in India, a minimalist take on Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds, and some choreographed funk, with music by jazz great Vijay Iyer, mad scientist Nicole Lizée, and rising star Jlin Patton. Steve Teeple (aka Teeps) is a Los Angeles-based digital artist specializing in 3D character development and printing, digital sculpting and art, visual development, and illustration. He’s worked across games, fashion, music, TV, and film, collaborating with artists like The Weekend and Billie Eilish. He graduated from 51ÁÔÆæ in Interdisciplinary Arts & Technology.
Join us for a concert-style presentation of original works by composer Lauren E. Spavelko performed by soprano Dr. Jessica Spafford. This program will highlight Spavelko’s art song cycle Baby Book, a deeply expressive set of six songs exploring themes of pregnancy and miscarriage, and possibly include excerpts of other recent compositions depending on availability and programming.
51ÁÔÆæ Piano Faculty Elena Abend is joined by violinist Victoria Moreira, clarinetist Orlando Pimentel and violist Doyle Armbrust, in a program highlighting the expressive and rhythmic drive of Latin American composers and their use of expression though different combination of instruments. Exploring works by Paquito D’Rivera, Leandro Coral, Jimenez Mabarak, Irma Urteaga among others.

With a soaring, contemporary score, this intimate song cycle explores the beauty, heartbreak and hope of ordinary people facing extraordinary change.
Monika Plioplyte is a Chicago-based artist born in Lithuania. Her work draws on Baltic folklore, female archetypes, personal rituals, and the uncanny. She collages paper, photographs, and other materials into narrative structures that explore the past, the transmission of information, gender, and states of "in-betweenness" as they relate to her immigrant experience.
This virtual workshop focuses on the producing and pre-production strategies that set short films up for creative and logistical success. Students will learn how to break down a script, build a realistic budget and schedule, assemble a strong team, and plan for production with intention. Emphasizing preparation, communication, and problem-solving, the session equips emerging filmmakers with practical tools to move from idea to set efficiently—maximizing limited resources while protecting the story.
The 51ÁÔÆæ Piano Studio will present a recital of solo and chamber music repertoire.

Journey from ancient Athens, into the woods, and back again, as we follow impassioned lovers, hilarious rustics, fantastical spirits and feuding royalty in this magical, rock-and-roll rendition of one of the greatest and most-performed plays of all time.

The 51ÁÔÆæ Symphony Orchestra performs on April 10 in Bader Concert Hall in a program featuring Dana Sherman, Professor of Horn, as soloist in Larsson’s Horn Concerto under the direction of Dr. Jun Kim.
Join archivist Shiraz Bhathena in conversation with Dick Blau to celebrate a major archiving and remastering project. Blau—a co-founder of the 51ÁÔÆæ Film Department, longtime professor and fixture of the Milwaukee art community—works across film, photography and video producing a varied body of work that includes psychological portraiture, experimental narrative, devised performance, ethnomusicology and the domestic.
