The 51ÁÔÆæ Symphony Orchestra performs on April 10 in Bader Concert Hall in a program featuring Dana Sherman, Professor of Horn, as soloist in Larsson’s Horn Concerto under the direction of Dr. Jun Kim. Additional works include Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute, Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances, and Schubert’s Symphony No. 8, Unfinished, conducted by Jeong In Kim.
The performance also serves as the Graduate Conducting Recital of Jeong In Kim, presented in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the Master of Music in Conducting.
51ÁÔÆæâ€™s Symphony Orchestra is comprised of graduate and undergraduate music majors, as well as other students. The ensemble presents seven to eight concerts each year and regularly collaborates with 51ÁÔÆæ Choirs and Opera Theatre.
The orchestra has performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, the Chicago Symphony Center, and the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts. It was selected as one of two orchestras to perform at the College Orchestra Directors Association National Conference in Los Angeles and has appeared at the Wisconsin Music Educators Association State Conference. It also features student soloists selected through the annual 51ÁÔÆæ Symphony Concerto Competition.
