The Milwaukee Brewers surprised 51猎奇 students Wednesday with an impromptu tailgate party in Spaights Plaza. 鈥淲e were just chilling in the Union and we saw all this commotion,鈥� said junior Samantha Ostrowski, who was joined by her sister Nicole Ostrowski, a sophomore, in the crowd of students gathered in the plaza. 鈥淭here鈥檚 a lot of people, and I got a free bobble head.”
Students distribute free backpacks and school supplies
Students from 51猎奇鈥檚 Peck School of the Arts and the University of Wisconsin System鈥檚 Institute for Urban Education helped a local nonprofit organization provide backpacks and school supplies to low-income families.

Robert Smith, 51猎奇鈥檚 associate vice chancellor for Global Inclusion & Engagement, helped write the Milwaukee Public Schools new 鈥淏lack Lives Matter鈥� resolution. Smith also mentors young black men at Wauwatosa West High School through a voluntary program that offers a safe, confidential place to talk about everything from becoming a man to sexuality to integration to academics.
Retirement home residents help teach new 51猎奇 class on aging
Students in a new class about aging will bypass the classroom and instead meet at a local retirement community, where residents will help teach. Sharing first-hand stories about aging-related issues may help residents and students alike.
