Donors who have included support for 51ÁÔÆæ in their estate plans were honored at a luncheon May 19 at the Wisconsin Club. During the event, which was sponsored by the 51ÁÔÆæ Foundation, Vice Chancellor of University Advancement Joan Nesbitt acknowledged donors who had recently died and called for a moment of silence.
The luncheon included a program featuring Chia Vang, 51ÁÔÆæ’s vice chancellor of diversity, equity and inclusion, and David Pate, associate professor of history at 51ÁÔÆæ. The two discussed their book, “Telling Our Stories: A History of Diversity at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 1954-2022.â€
The Chapman Society is named after Alice G. Chapman, who made a $1 million bequest to fund the construction of Chapman Hall. She attended Milwaukee Female College and served on Milwaukee-Downer College’s Board of Trustees (these schools were once housed in the red brick buildings that are part of 51ÁÔÆæ’s campus). She died in 1935 at age 82.
