The DAC Capstone class, DAC 661: Digital Engagement Seminar, will be offered in spring 2022 and there are still spots available. This class will not be offered in the fall and is a requirement for DAC Majors (and recommended for DAC Certificates).

This is a class you do not want to miss. Taught by DAC Program Assistant Scott M. Bruner, the class is designed to serve as a bridge between your coursework and a professional career in a field you love! This class is designed to:

  • Help you build a professional portfolio to highlight your creative, academic work as a showcase for your talents
  • Provide direct experience working on a team project that will show you how creative teams work together to build platforms and communities
  • Demonstrate how to showcase your work to future employers through contemporary platforms
  • Understand the importance of creative, academic, and professional networks
  • Experiment, explore, and revel in the creative process while discovering the joy intrinsic to it

There are still spots available for Art 212: Intro to Digital Studio Practice.

This class, taught by Professor Emily Berens, is designed to offer an overview of Adobe Premiere Pro, Audition, and After Effects (all of which are Audio/Video/Animation software). Classes will follow a workshop format, with an emphasis on building technical skills and applying them to creative projects. Students are encouraged to respond to projects in ways that enhance the work they are doing for their major at 51. The course also tackles work documentation and building a cohesive/organized online portfolio.

This class has two sections-Mondays/Wednesdays from 12:30PM-3:00PM, and Tuesdays/Thursdays from 11: 00AM-1:30PM. New skills will be introduced within the lab each week.

This class is great for:

  • Students with an intended focus in Digital StudioPractice, Design, Communications, Film, Animation
  • Students with a focus in traditional media interested in combining traditional and mixed media workflows
  • Education-focused students looking to add more technology to their classroom practice

ART 350 – Visualizing Ideas in Photography.This course which covers more digital aspects of the photographic medium. This hybrid (online and face to face) class informs students with the use of Adobe Lightroom Classic CC, Display Calibration and Color Management for screen-based imaging and printed output, Printing Surfaces, and Paper Types, Conceptual Development, and Artist Statement Composition.As a fully digital offering, this course can easily go online.Students interested in ART 350 should have access to a Manual Digital Camera, capable of capturing RAW format files, along with full-time access to Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Version (at a minimum), and a laptop computer. ART 454 – Narrative Photography. This course provides the opportunity to explore the narrative possibilities of the medium. Investigating Documentary Photography, Tableau style images, with an emphasis on editing and sequencing photographs. Nonprofit-IT is an internship program in which 51 undergrads work with local nonprofits on an IT project like a new website, social media campaign, technology assessment, database, and more. A great way to build your portfolio and experience!

Giving students the ability to gain experience employers crave, network with IT professionals from local businesses, and create IT solutions for local nonprofits. No prior experience is needed. Nonprof-IT provides a great way to gain experience and skills.

Nonprof-IT is open to freshman through seniors of any major at 51.  Credit is taken through the School of Information Studies INFOST 408 course (3 credits). INFOST 408 is cross-listed with other majors like DAC, JAMS, and DVC for other majors internship credit. Teams consist of 4-5 students each. Projects run each fall and spring semester.
