MELT: Ratcheting-up Student Thinking in the Era of AI

Using the Models of Engaged Learning and Teaching (MELT) framework, explore ways to facilitate students’ sophisticated thinking and prompt their learning autonomy in the Era of AI.  to join CETL and 51ÁÔÆæ educators in Englemann B73 for live streamed training and group discussion or participate virtually. This training is offered in coordination with Universities of Wisconsin and sponsored by UW-Stout. .

The University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (51ÁÔÆæ) has been at the forefront of the Open Educational Resources (OER) movement, striving to make quality education more accessible and affordable for students. As part of their commitment to enhancing the learning experience, 51ÁÔÆæ partnered with Hypothesis to increase engagement and leverage the power of OER materials. This case study explores the transformative impact of integrating Hypothesis into OER courses at 51ÁÔÆæ.

Writing, AI and Rhetorical Thinking Across the Disciplines

Wednesday, March 6 from 9:00am to 10:00am
In-person in Engelmann B73 or Virtual

from the English department show us how to merge the realms of artificial intelligence and rhetorical thinking to enhance student writing. Shevaun and David will begin with an examination of the concept of rhetorical focus – writing that is purpose-driven, audience-oriented, and context-sensitive. Next, through hands-on activities, we’ll use this understanding of rhetoric to revise AI-generated content in a way that infuses it with nuance, detail, and complexity.

Transparency in Learning and Teaching (TILT) assists instructors with designing and implementing assignments to improve student success and engagement. TILTed assignments give students the tools to see how they are learning. , the benefits to students and a chance to redesign an existing assessment using the TILT Framework.

Sign-up for CETL’s three part book club on Inclusive Teaching: Strategies for Promoting Equity in the College Classroom.

Authors Kelly Hogan (Biology) and Viji Sathy (Statistics) provide a framework for how structure enhances student learning, engagement, and inclusion. They provide practical strategies for group work and class activities, holding office hours, communicating with students, and more.
