{"id":58,"date":"2016-05-17T14:12:37","date_gmt":"2016-05-17T19:12:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/writing-center\/?page_id=58"},"modified":"2024-04-22T15:44:09","modified_gmt":"2024-04-22T20:44:09","slug":"center-policies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/writing-center\/about\/center-policies\/","title":{"rendered":"Center Policies"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Every Writer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Every writer has the right to work with a tutor who&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>is knowledgeable and trained in effective and ethical tutoring practices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>respects differences including ethnicity, race, gender, age, and beliefs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>allows writers to make final decisions regarding work and assignments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>behaves professionally and ethically with writers during their sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>maintains Center policies that promote fair and quality tutoring for all writers including those regarding scheduling, cancellations, space, noise, cleanliness, and sobriety.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>informs the Director or the Assistant Coordinator if a problem arises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Every Tutor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Every tutor has the right to&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>be treated respectfully by writers and fellow staff without regard to differences of ethnicity, race, gender, age, or beliefs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>be acknowledged as a writing tutor, not an editor, proofreader, translator or instructor.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>work <em>with<\/em> writers, not<em> for<\/em> them, and encourage them to think independently, to learn, to improve and produce their own best work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>expect writers to respect Writing Center policies that promote fair and quality tutoring for all including those regarding punctuality, scheduling, cancellations, space, noise, cleanliness and sobriety.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>be comfortable telling writers, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know, but I will find out.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>confer with the Director or Assistant Coordinator regarding writers, assignments or policies, or if a problem arises.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every Writer Every writer has the right to work with a tutor who&#8230;
