{"id":7456,"date":"2023-05-04T15:34:08","date_gmt":"2023-05-04T20:34:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/webid2-test-lsweb\/?page_id=7456"},"modified":"2025-08-26T15:03:42","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T20:03:42","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/womens-gender-studies\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Opened in 1974, WGS at 51ÁÔÆæ is one of the oldest Women\u2019s and Gender Studies programs in the U.S. Our interdisciplinary programs and the wide-raging expertise of our faculty guide you on an exciting journey through which you gain knowledge and skills critical for every kind of work and success in civic and professional life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are a tight knit community of faculty, staff and students who all share common goals to advance knowledge about women and gender-related issues through research to work within our broader communities on issues of importance to women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Women\u2019s &amp; Gender Studies offers a wide range of core courses taught by our own WGS faculty and academic staff and cross-listed and elective courses drawn from different departments on campus.
