At some&nbsp;point, social media&nbsp;turns into a constant reminder of the chaos in the world and&nbsp;starts to become&nbsp;overwhelming.&nbsp;It\u2019s&nbsp;important to remember to take&nbsp;a break&nbsp;from the news occasionally and to take the time to&nbsp;practice self-care and&nbsp;process&nbsp;what\u2019s&nbsp;going on in the world right now.&nbsp;Besides&nbsp;taking a&nbsp;social media or&nbsp;news break, here&nbsp;are&nbsp;some other things you can do to help&nbsp;support&nbsp;your mental health.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Talk it out with people you are close with;\u00a0this\u00a0could be your support system or close friends, for me this is my best\u00a0friend\u00a0and my sister.\u00a0Sometimes just talking to someone\u00a0can\u00a0help\u00a0you\u00a0process\u00a0what\u2019s\u00a0going on.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have someone to talk\u00a0to;\u00a0this is where\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/wellness\/counseling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SHAW<\/a>\u00a0can come in and help.\u00a0In addition to\u00a0having counselors here on campus, we have\u00a0additional\u00a0resources\u00a0to\u00a0support you.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Filter out what kind of\u00a0news\u00a0you are receiving.\u00a0A lot of news\u00a0apps let you filter the type of news\u00a0you want to receive notifications on.\u00a0Change\u00a0the filters\u00a0if you want to focus more on local news\u00a0or\u00a0more &#8220;good news&#8221;\u00a0stories.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take a break from\u00a0the\u00a0news,\u00a0social\u00a0media,\u00a0and\u00a0your\u00a0phone\u00a0in general.\u00a0Social\u00a0media\u00a0algorithms\u00a0tend\u00a0to follow what we most\u00a0view. You can change the algorithm\u00a0preferences in settings, which takes time, or just take a break all together. A break will also reset\u00a0your\u00a0algorithms, so when you come\u00a0back,\u00a0your\u00a0feed should look different.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find some time\u00a0during the day to unplug and do\u00a0some self-care.\u00a0\u00a0Finding time to unplug from social media and\u00a0the news is essential for good mental health.\u00a0Do a relaxing skin\u00a0care\u00a0routine, call a loved one to catch up,\u00a0or build a Lego set (yes, this counts as a stress reliever!).\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Explore\u00a0You@51ÁÔÆæ\u00a0for some relatable articles on how to take care of yourself mentally and physically.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/you.uwm.edu\/article\/6320\/selfcare-for-activists\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Here is an article I found helpful<\/a>.
