Psychiatry services are available to 51ÁÔÆæ students who are taking classes for credit and have paid the segregated fee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Psychiatry services are prioritized to students\u00a0<strong>NOT<\/strong>\u00a0currently prescribed psychotropic medication. If you are currently prescribed medication, Counseling Services can help you connect to community providers. All students utilizing Counseling Services Psychiatry services will be transitioned to community-based providers after short-term treatment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students wishing to pursue a psychiatric evaluation should\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/wellness\/make-an-appointment\/\">schedule an initial appointment with Counseling Services<\/a>\u00a0by contacting us by phone (414) 229-7429.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cancellation\/No-Show Policy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Due\u00a0to the demand for psychiatry services at 51ÁÔÆæ and in the community and in order to prevent missed appointments, effective 10\/1\/22, Counseling Services is implementing a $10.00 no\u2013show fee. If it is necessary to change or cancel your appointment, please call Counseling Services at (414) 229-7429\u00a0<strong>at least<\/strong>\u00a024-hours in advance.\u00a0 Missed appointments without notification may prevent another student from receiving services.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Additional Information<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who has specialized training in diagnosing and managing mental illness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner is master\u2019s level nurse who has specialized training in diagnosing and managing mental illness.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is common for psychiatry providers to recommend psychotherapy, including individual or group therapy, in addition to medication.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Many of the non-controlled medications commonly prescribed by psychiatry providers at Counseling Services are available at the Student Health and Wellness Center dispensary for a fee. Alternatively, written prescriptions may be provided for students to take to a pharmacy of their choice.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>ADHD is a common condition that can be managed in a wide variety of ways, through both medication and non-medication options. To be evaluated for stimulant medication treatment for ADHD through Counseling Services:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students must provide a copy of recent neuropsychological or neuropsychiatric testing confirming a diagnosis of ADHD. (Testing is not available at our center. Please call and speak to our case manager for a referral for testing.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students must not already be prescribed medication for this condition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medical evaluation, an EKG, and\/or urine toxicology screens may be requested as part of your assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Stimulants prescribed for ADHD have a high rate of diversion and are \u201cSchedule II\u201d controlled medications, meaning they have a high potential for abuse, a high incidence of physical or psychological dependence, and a recognized medical use.
