27th Annual Student Research Forum

Nourishing Places: Community Gardens as a Model For Neighborhood Engagement & Revitalization.

Join us for the 27th Annual Student Research Forum, a collaborative event bringing together community members, university scholars, students, and city officials to discuss community engagement, neighborhood collaboration, and urban development and policy change. As part of this year’s Student Research Forum, there will be a juried poster session showcasing senior capstone, service learning, and graduate student projects that examine critical issues facing Milwaukee, a panel discussion that will explore the significance of community engagement and neighborhood collaboration centered around community garden spaces in Milwaukee, and an awards ceremony and reception.

As part of the Urban Forum, there will be a poster session showcasing senior capstone and graduate student projects that examine critical issues facing Milwaukee. Through a pop-up exhibit, panel discussion, and student poster session, we will delve into the significance of community voices and how they can shape our city’s future.

Near West Side Partners Announces Lindsey St. Arnold Bell (M.S., Urban Studies ’16) as Executive Director

 today announced that  will serve as the organization’s next Executive Director. St. Arnold Bell succeeds NWSP’s inaugural Executive Director , who, at the end of 2022, announced his departure from Milwaukee.

For the love of the (video) game: Two alumni find jobs in the video game industry through the humanities and social sciences

Ben Schroeder and Timothy MacKenzie are two 51ÁÔÆæ alumni who have made a home for themselves in the video game industry—Schroeder as a software engineer at PlayStation and MacKenzie as a localization specialist for Nintendo. Neither have degrees in technology; instead, they learned the skills they need for their jobs through their majors in urban studies, journalism, and in Language, Literature, and Translation.
