Students who enrolled in college courses while in high school should still apply to 51ÁÔÆæ as a freshman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-notice uwm-p-notice--info uwm-u-mt-40\"><i class=\"fa-solid fa-circle-info fa-fw\"><\/i><div class=\"uwm-p-notice--content\"><div class=\"uwm-p-notice--title\">Application requirements for new freshmen are below.<\/div><div class=\"uwm-p-notice--message\">Ready to apply now?\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/undergrad-admission\/apply\/\">Review your steps for applying to 51ÁÔÆæ.<\/a><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-preparing-to-apply-to-uwm-as-a-freshman\">Preparing to Apply to 51ÁÔÆæ as a Freshman<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During the college application process, you&#8217;ll be asked for a variety of information, including personal information and academic history. To make completing the application as easy as possible, we recommend having the necessary information on hand.<br><br><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">If you&#8217;re current enrolled in high school, we recommend having this information available:<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Your current class schedule<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A PDF of your most recent transcript, which you&#8217;ll have the opportunity to upload to your application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your ACT\/SAT scores (optional). On the Common App, you have the option to self-report your scores. You can also upload your unofficial test scores in your 51ÁÔÆæ Admissions Portal.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A list of activities and work experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal and parent contact information (if applicable)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">If you&#8217;re a high school or GED\/HSED graduate, we recommend having this information available: <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Final high school transcript or GED\/HSED transcript<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A list of activities and work experience<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Personal and parent contact information (if applicable)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-uwm-application-essay\">51ÁÔÆæ Application Essay<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you apply to 51ÁÔÆæ as a freshman, the application essay is completed before you submit your application through either the UW-System Application or Common App. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sample essay question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tell us about something you\u2019ve done \u2014 academically or personally \u2014 and what you\u2019ve learned from it. Was it a success or a challenge? Did it represent a turning point in your life? How did this particular moment in your life influence you, and how will it continue to influence you as you pursue your college education?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Essay questions may differ depending on which application you use. Please complete the essay prompt associated with the application that you prefer<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your application essay should include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any academic and personal hurdles and\/or challenges you\u2019d like us to know about in the context of your application<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any information that is inclusive of your family or your community experiences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you submit your application essay, please make sure to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Review your spelling and grammar<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ask someone to proofread your final version<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check that your essay is between 250 and 650 words in length<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-required-application-materials\">Required Application Materials<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-high-school-transcripts\">High School Transcripts<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Official or unofficial high school transcripts may be submitted for initial application review. You may choose to upload your unofficial transcripts when completing the UW-System application. Unofficial transcripts can also be emailed to undergraduateadmissions@uwm.edu for review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Admission decisions are conditional until an official final high school transcript is submitted after high school graduation. Box 749<br>Milwaukee, WI 53201-0749<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"mailto:undergraduateadmissions@uwm.edu\">undergraduateadmissions@uwm.edu<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-test-scores-optional\">Test Scores (optional)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>UW System institutions, including 51ÁÔÆæ, are not requiring applicants to submit ACT or SAT scores as part of the application process this year. 51ÁÔÆæ will consider applicants for admission with or without one of these standardized test scores. On the application, students can indicate whether or not they intend to send an ACT or SAT score to be reviewed with their application. Students who plan to send test scores can submit official scores directly from the testing service, self-report their test scores on the Common App or in your 51ÁÔÆæ Admissions Portal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To send scores directly from the testing service, select UW-Milwaukee as a recipient (ACT school code: 4658; SAT school code: 1473).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-application-review\">Application Review<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-academic-preparation\">Academic Preparation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your academic performance in the classroom is the most important factor in the review of your application. We carefully consider the pattern and rigor of your high school coursework, class rank (if available), overall GPA and grades in specific courses related to your intended major at 51ÁÔÆæ. The most competitive candidates for admission to 51ÁÔÆæ typically surpass these unit requirements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>English: 4 units<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Math (Algebra 1, Geometry and Algebra 2 or equivalent): 3 units<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Natural Sciences: 3 units<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Social Sciences: 3 units<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic Electives: 4 units<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-performance-on-act-or-sat-optional\">Performance on ACT or SAT (optional)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you choose to submit test scores, performance on the ACT or SAT is only one factor considered in the admission process. In addition to your composite score, we also consider your sub-scores in the area(s) (English, math, reading, science) that closely relate to your intended major at 51ÁÔÆæ. Although the writing portion of the ACT is not required, we will consider these results if you wish to submit them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-additional-information\">Additional Information<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We want to know more about you beyond your academic record and test results!
