{"id":675,"date":"2015-12-08T10:36:15","date_gmt":"2015-12-08T16:36:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/sustainability\/?page_id=675"},"modified":"2026-01-10T12:43:37","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T18:43:37","slug":"students","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/sustainability\/get-involved\/students\/","title":{"rendered":"Students"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"size-p-lg\"><span class=\"TextRun SCX67973132\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCX67973132\">UW-Milwaukee students go above and beyond their studies to engage in sustainability.&nbsp; <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCX67973132\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCX67973132\">Student interns step out of the classroom to improve access to local foods, expand alternative transportation options on campus, and bring energy efficiency to the buildings they study in. They build their curiosity and inspire change through volunteering, service learning, campus governance and involvement with student organizations. There are many ways to get involved!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Internships: <\/strong>the Office of Sustainability supports student internships for credit, with approval by your academic department advisor or faculty sponsor. Usually these internships fall under &#8220;Independent Study&#8221; courses, and in some programs, there are specific courses for internship experiences. Each academic program is different, and it is the responsibility of the student to ensure first with their academic department that an Office of Sustainability internship will fulfill credit requirements. \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Examples of recent internships include: community engaged design process for community gardens on campus, literature review and planning for adapting green infrastructure practices on campus, supporting climate action planning, and completing water stewardship reporting. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Internships are often co-developed between the student and the Office of Sustainability. Please reach out to Lindsay at lgfrost@uwm.edu with your resume, your declared major, and initial interest areas for pursuing an internship. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each semester, we publish a <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/sustainability\/get-involved\/students\/sustainability-bingo-card\/\"><strong>Sustainability Bingo Card<\/strong><\/a>, giving students at least 25 different ways to get involved! <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There are hundreds of student organizations at 51ÁÔÆæ, including several <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/sustainability\/get-involved\/students\/student-organizations\/\"><strong>student organizations<\/strong> focused on sustainability<\/a> themes. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students can also volunteer with the Office!
