Film Series

A Milwaukee tradition for nearly two decades, the Share the Earth Environmental Film Series takes place monthly in the heart of 51ÁÔÆæ’s Union Cinema.

This long-running program tackles a diverse range of environmental issues, bringing thought-provoking documentaries and films to the forefront. Screenings don’t just spark conversations – they go a step further, connecting filmgoers to the local heroes making a difference. Following each film, audiences have the opportunity to engage with student organizations, community activists, and other Milwaukee experts who are actively working on the issues presented on screen. This creates a powerful synergy – raising awareness, inspiring action, and fostering connections that can translate into real-world environmental change.

Join us in the Union Cinema for our Share the Earth film series with concessions available! In Excess examines labor, capital, and displacement in modern America through the lens of one city’s trash — in sewers and streets, waterways and workplaces. It’s a gritty dive into the inner workings of a city’s infrastructure that embraces different formats, weaving newly digitized archival material together with surveillance footage and contemporary vignettes of people at work, communities in flux, and waste in motion. Observational and off-beat, the film finds harmonies and dissonance in patterns of creation, consumption, and renewal.
