Your local community, your ethnic group, your religious organization, your workplace, your team, your family - these are all examples of groups to which you might belong. The Sociology minor pairs well with almost any other major since it provides insight into human behavior and group dynamics. Understanding the social causes and consequences of human behavior is beneficial in business, law, urban planning, the arts, nursing and healthcare, education, and more.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro\">The minor in Sociology requires 18 credits in Sociology courses (6 courses), with 9 of those credits in courses numbered 300 or above taken in residence at 51ÁÔÆæ. The College requires that students attain at least a 2.0 GPA on all credits in the minor attempted at 51ÁÔÆæ. In addition, students must attain a 2.0 GPA on all transfer credits applied to the minor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"intro\">The Sociology minor is available entirely online for students that wish to earn their degree from a distance. Click on &quot;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/sociology\/students\/undergraduates\/declare-your-minor\/\" target=\"_blank\">Declare Your Minor<\/a>&quot; to fill out the online request to join the program. Once you complete a request, it will be assigned to a Letters &amp; Science academic advisor. They will follow up with you about your declaration request.\u00a0After your request to declare sociology as a minor is approved (unless otherwise stated) it will be filed as part of your student record. Within approximately 5-7 business days, a sociology faculty advisor will review your unofficial transcript and you will receive a detailed email with your assessment to let you know exactly where you are in your progress toward the degree. Follow the steps using the &quot;Declare a Minor&quot; button on the department\u2019s website which may include instructions on how to select a faculty advisor if there is more than one to choose from.<\/p> <p>Students who already have an L&amp;S college advisor because their degree plan is in L&amp;S can discuss the minor with them as well since they will be familiar with any minor in L&amp;S. Students who are working on a degree from a 51ÁÔÆæ college other than the College of Letters &amp; Science will not need an L&amp;S college advisor for just a minor and one will not be assigned.
