Sociology graduate student, Elizabeth Deiters received a Graduate Student Excellence Fellowship for 2025-26!

The Graduate Student Excellence Fund was established in 2015 as a philanthropic effort to provide advanced degree students the support they need to pursue their research endeavors, complete their studies and share discoveries with others in their fields. Enthusiastic supporters of this fund represent myriad interests such as business, industry, law, medicine and public service.

Students do not apply for these fellowships. They are awarded on the basis of program faculty nomination combined with donor wishes.

Sociology Alumni Victoria Isaac (BA ’21 & MA ’23) to receive 2025 GOLD Award

The Graduate of the Last Decade (GOLD) Award is an award given by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Alumni Association to up to five undergraduate alumni. The award recognizes alumni who have made notable contributions to their community or the university within 10 years of graduating.

Victoria “Tori” Isaac is a dancer, educator, and choreographer at Turning Point Dance Studio in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Sociology Alumni Mollie Poppie (MA ’07) to receive 51 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award

The Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (51) recognizes graduates who have had a significant impact on their careers and their communities. The award is given to up to two mid-career graduates each year.

Mollie Poppie works as head of analytics at Experian, Financial Services & Data, in Chicago, Illinois.

So, What Are You Going to Do with That? Using Sociology to Launch or Advance Your Career

Are you a sociology major or minor who isn’t sure how to apply what you are learning to a career? Would you like to learn more about job opportunities available to college graduates with a sociological background? If the answer to either of these questions is “yes” this event is for you! 

Sociology faculty will talk about potential career pathways for students who graduate with a sociology BA as well as the potential for further training through graduate programs.

This will be an informative and fun program with opportunities to meet other students and sociology faculty and eat some great food!
