Behind them, three illustrations of their faces appear on a large screen in front of the room.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><\/figure><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-annual-events-include\">Annual events include:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/socialwelfare\/exploring-and-celebrating-the-older-adult-lgbtq-community\/\">Community event<\/a> \u2013 held in fall.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/socialwelfare\/research-impact\/office-of-applied-gerontology\/artistic-representations-of-aging-2026\/\">Artistic Representations of Aging<\/a> \u2013 held in spring.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/socialwelfare\/research-impact\/office-of-applied-gerontology\/2025-weaad-event\/\">World Elder Abuse Awareness Day<\/a> \u2013 held in early June.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-impact\">Impact<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-2023-agesw-leadership-award\">2023 AGESW Leadership Award<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"default\">The Association for Gerontology Education in Social Work (AGESW) selected Colleen Galambos for the 2023 AGESW Leadership Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This award recognizes a faculty member who has made significant contributions in aging research, teaching and scholarship and who has demonstrated outstanding service to AGESW and gerontological social work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-vital-directions-for-health-and-health-care\">Vital Directions for Health and Health Care<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"default\">Colleen Galambos, Helen Bader Endowed Chair in Applied Gerontology at 51ÁÔÆæ, was invited by the National Academy of Medicine to participate in the <a href=\"https:\/\/nam.edu\/initiatives\/vital-directions-for-health-and-health-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vital Directions for Health and Health Care: Priorities for 2021 initiative<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This initiative provides expert guidance on U.S. health policy focus areas, including health care for older adults. Galambos co-authored the article &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthaffairs.org\/doi\/10.1377\/hlthaff.2020.01470\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Actualizing Better Health and Health Care for Older Adults<\/a>,&#8221; which outlines policy priorities that can help improve the care and quality of life for all older adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-national-academy-of-science-engineering-and-medicine-s-quality-of-care-in-nursing-homes-committee\">National Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine&#8217;s Quality of Care in Nursing Homes Committee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Colleen Galambos was selected to serve on the National Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nap.nationalacademies.org\/catalog\/26526\/the-national-imperative-to-improve-nursing-home-quality-honoring-our\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Quality of Care in Nursing Homes<\/a> Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-students-and-alumni\">Students and Alumni<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"uwm-p-card-grid uwm-l-grid uwm-l-grid--equal-y uwm-l-grid--2\">\n<div class=\"uwm-p-card uwm-p-card--testimonial uwm-p-card--gold uwm-p-card--testimonial-outside uwm-u-mb-40\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/socialwelfare\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/608\/2025\/12\/Tawanda-Goodman.jpg\" alt=\"Headshot of Black woman wearing a cross necklace, cardigan and professional badge.\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><figure class=\"uwm-p-card--body\"><blockquote><p><em>The Aging Minor strengthened my BSW by giving me specialized knowledge about older adults, dementia care, and long-term care systems.
