December 1, 2025 – Libraries Committee – Minutes

Time: Monday at 10:00 a.m.

Present: Rachel Baum – ULC Chair, Anne Bonds, Michael Doylen – Library Director, Jenny Hutton, Maura Lucking, Jesse Malmed, Ermitte Saint Jacques, Shevaun Watson, and Lance Weinhardt

Excused: Martha Carlin, Victoria Moerchen, William Musinski, and Analise Sandoval

  1. Baum called the meeting to order at 10:02 a.m.
  2. Approval of October 21, 2025, meeting minutes
    The minutes of October 21, 2025, meeting were approved by unanimous consent.
  3. Director’s report
    Doylen provided an update on staffing and searches for a variety of positions. Isabella Kostolni, Communications Manager, began on November 17. The Libraries are currently recruiting for the Head of Borrowing Services with recruitment to begin shortly for the AGSL Curator, Health Sciences Librarian, and Business Librarian.

    Doylen reported that the Libraries are hosting the “Violins of Hope” exhibition, which showcases the violins owned and played by Jewish musicians and others targeted by the Nazis before and during the Holocaust.

    Doylen shared some recent news items.
    • OER will be providing support to the Math Department to improve the accessibility of online homework materials for Math 115 and Math 208.
    • The deadline to apply for the Fromkin Research Grant is January 9.
    • The faculty and graduate student library survey closed on November 18. Data analysis is underway and will be reported at the next meeting.
  4. Meeting frequency, scheduling, and agenda development
    After an in-depth discussion, the committee agreed to hybrid meetings in February and April moving toward a standing time. Doodle poll responses will be used to determine dates for those meetings. The committee suggested that the fall meeting always begin with a library orientation to assist members in proposing agenda items.
