Diverse-OT, UW-Milwaukee Chapter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Diverse-OT is a local chapter of a national non-profit organization that provides opportunities for discussion and education on equity and inclusion to advance the cultural climate within the Occupational Therapy Program and the greater UW-Milwaukee campus. Diverse-OT also endeavors to partner with students from underrepresented groups to build a strong multicultural occupational therapy student body who are knowledgeable and equipped to address inequities in health outcomes among historically marginalized populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diverse-OT engages in a variety of efforts aimed toward achieving our organization\u2019s goals. These include supporting the recruitment and retention of underrepresented students interested in health-related programs through resource provision and mentorship, seeking out guest speakers with expertise in the intersection of health and underrepresented populations, integrating equity and inclusion into the 51ÁÔÆæ MSOT student experience, and fostering community engagement through partnerships with local community organizations. Diverse-OT strives to serve as a model for student organizations across the nation pursuing efforts towards achieving equity in health and well-being for persons, groups, and populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Doctor of Physical Therapy Student Association<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This organization promotes student involvement, physical therapy research, teamwork, and cooperation among 51ÁÔÆæ students and faculty, and it educates and serves the community through its knowledge of physical therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Student Speech Language Hearing Association (NSSLHA)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

NSSLHA is the organization for undergraduate and graduate students interested in the study of normal and disordered human communication behavior. Students may join the 51ÁÔÆæ campus chapter and\/or the national organization which is affiliated with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the national organization receive several journals and a reduction in dues the year they initially join ASHA. The campus chapter provides opportunities to network with other students, socialize, provide service through fundraising events and learn more about the professions of speech-language pathology and audiology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Society of Athletic Training Students (SATS)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

SATS\u2019 purpose is to promote and encourage higher scholastic achievement and personal and professional development in the area of sports medicine. SATS is open to anyone interested in kinesiology, exercise and fitness, athletic training, physical therapy, occupational therapy or sports medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

SOTA offers opportunities to all levels of Occupational Therapy students to become actively involved in a college-level association that is linked with both the state and national level OT associations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SOTA offers a vehicle for students to express their ideas and opinions, be an advocate for occupational therapy, become acquainted with the workings of an organization, volunteer in the community, raise funds for charity organizations, and become involved in campus activities. The organization is dedicated to ensuring a successful organization for future OT students and creating cohesion, good communication and unity between students and faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
