{"id":10649,"date":"2025-04-08T12:03:19","date_gmt":"2025-04-08T17:03:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/rehabilitation-sciences-technology\/?page_id=10649"},"modified":"2025-06-20T09:51:55","modified_gmt":"2025-06-20T14:51:55","slug":"augmentative-and-alternative-communication-aac-laboratory","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/rehabilitation-sciences-technology\/research\/laboratories\/augmentative-and-alternative-communication-aac-laboratory\/","title":{"rendered":"Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Laboratory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"uwm-l-row\">\n<div class=\"uwm-l-col\">\n<p class=\"lead-in\">The\u00a0<strong>Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Lab<\/strong>oratory\u00a0in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Health Professions &amp; Sciences is dedicated to research to improve the lives of individuals who have complex communication needs and require AAC systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"lead-in\">AAC systems are used by individuals who are unable to meet their daily communication needs using speech. This includes individuals with a wide range of disabilities such as: cerebral palsy, autism, aphasia, and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig\u2019s disease).
