The following section provides an overview of 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s specific policies governing transfer of undergraduate credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also review the complete&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/uw-policies\/uw-system-administrative-policies\/uw-system-undergraduate-transfer-policy\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Universities of Wisconsin Transfer Policy online<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additional information on transfer to the Universities of Wisconsin can also be found on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/transfer\/\">Transfer Wisconsin website<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transferable-coursework\">Transferable Coursework<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Typically, transfer credit is only awarded for college-level and undergraduate coursework.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Courses that are part of continuing education or graduate level programs and those that are remedial, technical, vocational or doctrinal do not transfer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Credit will be awarded from degree-granting colleges or universities with institutional accreditation from an accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).&nbsp; Non-CHEA approved institutional accreditors recognized by the Department of Education will be considered on a case-by-case basis and transfer credit allowed if appropriate based on the quality, comparability, and applicability of the coursework.&nbsp; Schools with programmatic accreditation may be evaluated for transfer if the accreditor is recognized by CHEA and the relevant coursework falls within the accreditor\u2019s area of specialization.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-credit-hours\">Credit Hours<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Semester term credits are transferred on a one-to-one basis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quarter term credits are transferred on a two-thirds-to-one basis: A student who has taken 30 transferrable credits at a quarter-system institution will have 20 semester hours transfer to 51ÁÔÆæ.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-maximum-credit-transfers\">Maximum Credit Transfers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A maximum of 72 semester credits from 2-year institutions can be applied to your total 51ÁÔÆæ degree credits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There is no maximum of semester credits that can be transferred from a four-year university.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-grades\">Grades<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Grades you received for credits that are transferred from other institutions are not calculated in your GPA at 51ÁÔÆæ.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Previous grades and GPA may be used in your program\u2019s admission decision.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If you repeat 51ÁÔÆæ coursework at another institution and later return to 51ÁÔÆæ, the grade you earned at 51ÁÔÆæ will be used to calculate your GPA.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-equivalencies-amp-electives\">Equivalencies &amp; Electives<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Incoming courses may transfer as 51ÁÔÆæ course equivalents or electives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Departmental elective credit may be awarded for courses that do not resemble 51ÁÔÆæ courses directly but fit within a specific curricular area, signified by letters instead of a course number (e.g., HISTORY X).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>General elective credit may be awarded for courses deemed college-level but that do not fit precisely within a 51ÁÔÆæ academic department.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Elective credits count toward degree credit totals and may be used in fulfilling degree requirements pending permission from the academic program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-degree-amp-residency-requirements\">Degree &amp; Residency Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Transfer credit can satisfy degree requirements, although the academic program may need to approve the use of elective credits.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students who have completed a liberal arts associate degree from a UW System institution or Wisconsin Technical College System school will be granted completion of university general education distribution requirements.\u00a0 Completed associate of applied science degrees may fulfill specific requirements based on a course-to-course transfer evaluation.\u00a0 Also see the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/registrar\/transfer-credits\/articulation-agreements\/\">articulation agreement<\/a>\u00a0section for unique transfer policies related to specific AAS degrees.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Beginning with the 2026-27 academic year and per Universities of Wisconsin Regents and System Administration policies, credit applied to a Core General Education Requirement (CGER) at one UW institution must be accepted in transfer and applied to the same requirement at another UW.  Additionally, once a CGER category is fulfilled at one UW, it will be noted as satisfied at the UW to which a student may transfer.  Students who have satisfied all CGER credits at any UW are considered to have completed the requirement for all UW&#8217;s.  More complete policy information may be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisconsin.edu\/uw-policies\/uw-system-administrative-policies\/interim-universities-of-wisconsin-core-general-education-requirements\/\">Universities of Wisconsin website<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Each program requires a certain number of credits to be earned in residence at 51ÁÔÆæ, and some programs include transfer credit GPA in determining if requirements are satisfied.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Always consult your Academic Advisor on specific requirements to ensure you are on the right track.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-transfer-credit-evaluation-process\">Transfer Credit Evaluation Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Transfer Credit Evaluation Specialists will always try to award you with as much transfer credit as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Once you have been admitted to 51ÁÔÆæ, your Official Transcript data is submitted to the Registrar\u2019s Office<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Registrar\u2019s Office Transfer Credit Evaluation Specialists review course descriptions from your other institutions and compare the content with courses offered by 51ÁÔÆæ\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Courses are identified as either equivalencies or electives, or are not eligible for transfer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>At this time, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uwm.edu\/registrar\/tools\/ted\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transfer Equivalency Database<\/a>&nbsp;is maintained for new and existing course equivalencies<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The official results of the Registrar\u2019s credit evaluation are posted to your PAWS account within 2-4 weeks of your date of admittance.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Log in to your PAWS account<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Under the yellow&nbsp;<em>51ÁÔÆæ&nbsp;<\/em>header, click into the drop down menu for&nbsp;<em>Other Academic<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the&nbsp;<em>Transfer Credit Report<\/em>&nbsp;and click the yellow arrow button<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All transfer credit, including course credits and test credits, will be posted within the report<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once your transfer credits are posted, begin planning for your first semester at 51ÁÔÆæ\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Meet with your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/onestop\/pages\/academic-advising-offices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Academic Advisor<\/a>&nbsp;to schedule your classes and plan for your degree<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Register for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/web.uwm.edu\/orientation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Transfer and Adult Student Orientation<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Complete the FAFSA to apply for&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/onestop\/finances\/receiving-financial-aid\/#apply\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">financial aid<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uwm.sis.wisconsin.edu\/milprd-login\">PAWS<\/a>&nbsp;account \u201cTo Do List\u201d for holds, fees, or tasks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Contact the Registrar\u2019s Office via our&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/registrar\/students\/your-student-record\/transfer-credits\/transferring-course-credits\/#contact\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">online form<\/a>&nbsp;at any time with questions.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":40,"featured_media":0,"parent":454,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"templates\/full-width.php","meta":{"footnotes":"","uwm_wg_additional_authors":[36919,17822]},"class_list":["post-456","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.3 (Yoast SEO v27.3) -
