The Psychology Department places a premium on excellence in teaching and scholarly research. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a result, we are one of the most dynamic and productive departments at 51ÁÔÆæ. The faculty are recognized experts in their various disciplines as well as being accomplished teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps the best indicator of our success, however, is the quality of our students. Our graduate students have been extraordinarily successful in research and scholarship. Together with faculty, they publish cutting-edge research and successfully compete for national scholarships, grants and awards. They secure postgraduate positions at some of the most prestigious universities in the country as well as employment in industry, government, and academia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graduate students interested in advanced study in neuroscience will pursue a degree in biological sciences or psychology and can focus their courses and research in neuroscience within one of those programs. Prospective students should identify the faculty member that most closely aligns with their interest to determine whether to apply to biology or psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students interested in counseling psychology or school psychology should explore those programs available through the College of Community Engagement & Professions<\/a> at 51ÁÔÆæ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

51ÁÔÆæ is one of the nation\u2019s top research universities (i.e., Carnegie Classification: R1) and one of the two centers of doctoral study in the Universities of Wisconsin system. The 51ÁÔÆæ campus is located in a vibrant urban setting on Milwaukee\u2019s North Shore close to Lake Michigan. It serves approximately 22,000+ undergraduate and graduate students. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Admissions to our PhD program is very competitive. See our application information page<\/a> for more details. An applicant\u2019s entire record is reviewed including undergraduate GPA, courses taken, research record, and letters of recommendation (three letters are required). Please note that we will NOT consider GRE scores in our application review process and scores should not be submitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some international students who earn degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics fields may apply for a 24-month extension of their post-completion optional practical training (OPT). Our Psychology MS\/PhD programs have been designated as one of them. Therefore, international students who graduate from our Psychology MS\/PhD programs will be eligible for applying for an OPT STEM Extension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
