Designed for students who are interested in post-secondary education, the program offers&nbsp;workshops,&nbsp;college visits, enrichment&nbsp;experiences&nbsp;and summer programming&nbsp;that build academic skills, leadership, and college readiness. Through intentional academic support, including tutoring,&nbsp;advising,&nbsp;and exposure to college and career pathways, Upward Bound helps students excel in high school, successfully transition to college, and persist through degree completion. Beyond academics, the program offers leadership development, social enrichment, financial literacy education, guidance on college&nbsp;fit, and career exploration. Students also engage in service-learning, field trips, workshops, and community events,&nbsp;experiences that broaden their perspectives and foster growth outside the classroom.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-services-provided-by-ub-include-nbsp\">Services provided by UB include:&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Tutoring&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Individualized Academic Advising&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Career Exploration&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>College Admission Assistance&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial Aid and Scholarship Assistance&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Academic and Career Exploration Workshops&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>College Visits&nbsp;and Campus Tours&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mandatory 6-Week Summer Program&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parent Workshops&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"uwm-bg-gray uwm-u-py-80\"><div class=\"uwm-l-container--base uwm-l-container--overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading heading-separator\" id=\"h-program-dates\">Program Dates<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Upward Bound provides participants with academic&nbsp;enrichment, career exploration, personal support, leadership development,&nbsp;and exposure to the college environment. Students&nbsp;participate&nbsp;in the program from the time of acceptance through high school graduation.&nbsp;Participation&nbsp;is&nbsp;required&nbsp;for the&nbsp;six-week pre-college summer program on the UW-Milwaukee campus. Students attend classes according to grade level.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Academic Year<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attend monthly UB program meeting, academic enrichment and&nbsp;college preparation&nbsp;workshops and program activities\/field trips<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend monthly scheduled meetings with UB advisors to discuss students\u2019 academic performance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students attend after-school tutoring at least&nbsp;one \u2013 four&nbsp;days per week<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-6-week-summer-session\">6-Week Summer Session<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Students attend classes, workshops,&nbsp;and&nbsp;participate&nbsp;in&nbsp;a variety of electives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students attend classes, workshops,&nbsp;and&nbsp;participate&nbsp;in&nbsp;a variety of electives<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;UB&nbsp;6 &#8211; week&nbsp;Summer Program has a residential or commuter&nbsp;option&nbsp;for participants\u202f<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"uwm-bg-white uwm-u-py-80\"><div class=\"uwm-l-container--base uwm-l-container--overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading heading-separator\" id=\"h-eligibility\">Eligibility<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We recruit students for 51ÁÔÆæ Upward Bound in their freshman or sophomore year of high school. The best time to apply is during the fall of the freshman year \u2014 applications submitted before the end of the first quarter are eligible to compete for placement. New student orientations take place in November and December.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Students who enroll in Upward Bound must be:<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A potential first-generation college student (neither parent has completed a four-year college degree)&nbsp;<em><strong>And\/Or<\/strong><\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>From a family that meets income eligibility guidelines as determined by the Department of Education \n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To view the income levels guidelines, visit\u00a0the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/grants-and-programs\/grants-higher-education\/federal-trio-programs\/upward-bound-program#resources\">Upward Bound Program &gt; Resources tab<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the 9th or 10th grade<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Attend a target school&nbsp;or be within&nbsp;the target schools\u2019 service area\u202f\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Target Schools include&nbsp;Bay View&nbsp;High School, Hmong American Peace Academy (HAPA),&nbsp;Rufus&nbsp;King International&nbsp;High School, Pulaski&nbsp;High School, Riverside&nbsp;University High School, South Division&nbsp;High School, Washington&nbsp;High School of Information Technology&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"policies-fees\"><strong>Preferences given to students:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Upward Bound gives preference to students who are willing to remain in the program through graduation from high school<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Motivated to participate in all program activities and willing to work hard<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Students must be willing to participate in UB during the summer and throughout the school year<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Committed to attending college after high school<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<section class=\"uwm-bg-gray uwm-u-py-80\"><div class=\"uwm-l-container--base uwm-l-container--overflow-hidden\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading heading-separator\" id=\"h-registration\">Registration<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Upward Bound is currently at&nbsp;participant&nbsp;capacity and is no longer accepting applications at this time.&nbsp;Applications will re-open in the Fall of&nbsp;2026.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"has-alpha-channel-opacity uwm-c-hr--thick uwm-u-m-0 uwm-u-p-0\" \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":40,"featured_media":0,"parent":50,"menu_order":4,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"templates\/full-width.php","meta":{"footnotes":"","uwm_wg_additional_authors":[]},"class_list":["post-169","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v27.3 (Yoast SEO v27.3) -
