Purpose
The University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee follows for student academic misconduct.
This page outlines 51ÁÔÆæ-specific procedures, definitions, and additions adopted in accordance with UWS 14.
Procedures
Investigating Officers Definition
Related to
The Dean of each school and college shall appoint an investigating officer who shall have jurisdiction over students enrolled in that school or college.
In the case of degree and non-degree candidates not enrolled in schools or colleges, the investigating officer of the academic unit offering the course, in which the alleged misconduct occurred will have jurisdiction.
The investigating officer of the College of Letters and Science shall have jurisdiction in the event a degree or non-degree candidate not enrolled in a school or college is alleged to have committed an act of academic misconduct outside the context of a course.
Student Affairs Officer Definition
Related to UWS
A student affairs officer for the campus shall be appointed by the Chancellor from among the members of the faculty or academic staff.
Academic Misconduct Definition (Additional Example)

Dishonesty with respect to placement or proficiency tests constitutes another example of academic misconduct.
Additional Disciplinary Sanction
Related to
Personal probation, whereby the student is required to meet with a specific University faculty or staff member at intervals to be specified.
Placement and Proficiency Test Misconduct
Related to
Alleged misconduct during the administration of placement or proficiency tests:
In the case of alleged misconduct occurring during the administration of placement or proficiency tests, the chief administrator of the Testing Office or his/her superior in the Department of Enrollment services will perform the functions comparable to those of instructors as outlined ln UWS Chapter 14.
While an incident of alleged misconduct is being adjudicated, use of the test result in question for its intended purpose will be postponed. Only if it is concluded that the test score was unaffected by misconduct will the test results be used.
Hearing
Related to
Two academic misconduct hearing committees shall be established, one for cases involving undergraduate and special students and one for graduate student cases.
The Academic Misconduct Hearing Committee for graduate student cases shall be the Graduate School Scholastic Appeals Committee. The student affairs officer (see previous paragraph) shall convene the committee, preside at hearings but not vote, and perform all administrative duties of the committee including maintaining records and preparing/sending correspondence.
Appeal to the Chancellor
Related to
If the Chancellor remands the matter for consideration by a different hearing committee, four faculty and two student members of the Academic Policy Committee will be appointed by the Chancellor to serve as the hearing committee.
Right to Petition for Readmission
Related to
Petitions for readmission shall be directed to the student affairs officer who will convene an appropriate academic misconduct hearing committee. The decision of the academic misconduct hearing committee shall be served upon the student either by personal delivery, by electronic means, or by first class United States mail.
Records of Students with Disciplinary Charges Pending
Whenever charges or appeals under Chapter 14 are pending, a student charged shall have the same rights and privileges accorded other students. Accordingly, a student under charges shall be entitled to receive grades and transcripts in the same manner as other students. The University may withhold diplomas pending final determination of the charges. Transcripts shall not contain any notation of anticipated disciplinary actions. Only transcripts of students currently suspended or expelled shall contain notice to this effect.
Records of Disciplinary Action
The Dean of Students shall be notified in writing of all disciplinary actions taken and/or sanctions imposed for academic misconduct, whether imposed by an instructor, the academic misconduct hearing committee, or an appeals body.
