Did you know that many names of stars are Arabic? Join us in an exploration of Arab culture, from food to architecture, as well as its many contributions to astronomy. Guest speakers Mohamed Maache and Mona Said will give personal accounts of their homelands, Algeria and Lebanon. Gaze at the starry night sky as astronomer Jean Creighton shares her favorite story from “One Thousand and One Nights.â€

The program will include an indoor stargazing session of the night sky followed by the opportunity to ask questions. This event is open to the public. Not recommended for children under 4.

Instructions & Door Policy

Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the start of the show. If you purchase tickets in advance, you do not need to print anything. You can simply check in at the ticket table with your name starting 30 minutes before the show start time.

If you have not checked in 5 minutes before the show starts (for example, 6:55 pm for a 7:00pm show), we may release your ticket to someone on the waiting list.

Doors close 5 minutes after the show starts. Sorry, no late admissions.

You may be able to find street parking (both metered and free) but be sure to read the street signs for restrictions.

Payment for parking spots can be done by using the Parkmobile smartphone app or pay stations located on the perimeter of the lot. Purchase a parking ticket from one of the booths by entering your license plate number and the amount of time you will be parked. The booth accepts cash, Visa, and Mastercard.

Gaze at the night sky through our telescopes on select dates! Weather permitting, view the Moon, planets, star clusters, and other astronomical objects. Stargazing sessions are free and open to the public. Not recommended for children under 4.

Stargazing sessions take place throughout the year on the Skydeck located on the roof of the 51ÁÔÆæ Physics building as well as in other locations for special events. See below for the latest schedule.

Sessions may be cancelled due to poor weather conditions (rain, snow, temperatures below 0° F) or cloudiness. Please check the event status on this page after 5:30pm on the day of the session before visiting. If cancelled, we will update the status no later than 5:30pm on the day of the session.

Instructions for Attending Planetarium Show

To attend the planetarium show, check in at the ticket table in the hallway outside of the Planetarium starting as early as 30 minutes before the show start time to reserve your free spot. Seats are first come first serve. We do not accept ticket reservations for free shows in advance.

The planetarium is a theater that projects stars, planets, the Sun, and the Moon on a 30-foot dome. Portions of the show involve complete darkness and may not be suitable for children under 4.

Doors close 5 minutes after the planetarium show starts. Sorry, no late admissions.
