51ÁÔÆæ graduate and undergraduate students are immersing themselves in some of Milwaukee\u2019s oldest and often overlooked neighborhoods such as Sherman Park to learn about the people, culture, heritage and history.<\/p>\n
The students interview the people who live there and document architectural treasures, corner businesses and parks. The findings then lead to a thank-you gift to the community.<\/p>\n
The students are part of the The Buildings-Landscapes-Cultures Field School led by Arijit Sen, an associate professor in the School of Architecture & Urban Planning and in 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s Urban Studies Program. Sen coordinates with 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s Peck School of the Arts, UW-Madison and the Library of Congress.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat matters most is that we produce good citizens,\u201d Sen says. \u201cTo sustain urban life, we need to have different ways to tell stories about each other.
