Looking back at his career he says 51ÁÔÆæ gave him the perfect start to becoming a doctor. Currently he&#8217;s a professor of medicine and vice chair of educational programs at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Department of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. He also maintains an internal medicine practice, seeing patients at Walter Reed Medical Center. Hemmer served in the military from 1991 to 2012, retiring with the rank of colonel.
