But this is not a normal year.<\/p>\n<p>The coronavirus pandemic closed campus this spring and much of the summer, so the garden plots are closed too. Only essential workers can be on campus.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than let all that good dirt go to waste, a team of workers from the campus Office of Sustainability <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/campus-gardens-growing-again-to-help-out-during-pandemic\/\">are planting and tending the gardens<\/a>. The food grown there will be donated to the 51ÁÔÆæ Food Center and Pantry, providing a supply of fresh produce for those in need. Demand at the food pantry has mushroomed amid the pandemic lockdown.<\/p>\n<p>The effort harkens back through the decades.
