{"id":98495,"date":"2021-10-27T13:36:36","date_gmt":"2021-10-27T18:36:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=98495"},"modified":"2024-09-27T09:58:28","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T14:58:28","slug":"hera-program-recognized-for-efforts-to-develop-tech-talent-pool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/hera-program-recognized-for-efforts-to-develop-tech-talent-pool\/","title":{"rendered":"HERA program recognized for efforts to develop tech talent pool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A regional educational initiative involving 51ÁÔÆæ has been recognized for its efforts to help develop the talent pool to fill high-tech jobs.<\/p>\n<p>STEM Forward honored the Higher Education Regional Alliance (HERA) and the MKE Tech Hub Coalition with a 2021 Excellence in STEM Award for its partnership related to the coalition\u2019s pre-internship program on ethics and the impact of data and artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-95494 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2021\/08\/FY21_250x250HERA_AccreditationBadge_AIandDATA_DataIcon_Final.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2021\/08\/FY21_250x250HERA_AccreditationBadge_AIandDATA_DataIcon_Final.jpg 250w, https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2021\/08\/FY21_250x250HERA_AccreditationBadge_AIandDATA_DataIcon_Final-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.herawisconsin.org\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">HERA<\/a> conferred its Foundations of Data and Artificial Intelligence \u201cbadge\u201d to 64 students from area high schools, colleges and universities who completed the program. A badge is a certification that students can use to signify their newly learned skills on their resumes.<\/p>\n<p>51ÁÔÆæ is a founding member of HERA, which is a collaboration of 18 public and private institutions in southeastern Wisconsin, along with partner organizations. Eleven students were among the first class of badge recipients this summer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/milwaukee\/partner-insights\/2021\/05\/06\/new-regional-dashboard-to-track-milwaukee-s-tech.html\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Milwaukee region is forecast<\/a>\u00a0to have about 31,000 unfilled tech jobs by 2024, according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mketech.org\/about-us\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MKE Tech Hub Coalition<\/a>, a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing the tech talent pool in the region. The shortage mirrors a national trend.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents can use this badge to showcase their new skillset and differentiate themselves as they apply to internships and careers post-graduation,\u201d HERA said.<\/p>\n<p>STEM Forward recognized winners at its annual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stemforward.org\/systemnow-conference\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">sySTEMnow Conference<\/a> on Wednesday in Milwaukee. STEM Forward <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stemforward.org\/mission\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">describes itself<\/a> as southeastern Wisconsin\u2019s leading nonprofit, technical organization providing and promoting educational outreach programs in science, technology, engineering and math.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A regional educational initiative involving
