The 51ÁÔÆæ College of Nursing is expanding its program to 51ÁÔÆæ at Waukesha beginning in fall 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The program will provide Waukesha and surrounding communities access to the only four-year nursing program at a public university within a 60-mile radius. Nursing will be the first bachelor\u2019s degree program to be offered on-site at 51ÁÔÆæ at Waukesha since the integration of the institutions in 2018.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_86995\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-86995\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-86995 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2020\/10\/nursing300x200-20191210_IMC_EH_040.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-86995\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">51ÁÔÆæ nursing student Kim Phan tends to an infant. (51ÁÔÆæ Photo\/Elora Hennessey)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The expansion to Waukesha will provide active learning space, clinical simulation and the ability to have clinical placements in Waukesha or Washington counties. Students at Waukesha will have to come to 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s Milwaukee campus only for a few clinical practice simulations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am thrilled to offer our nursing program at 51ÁÔÆæ at Waukesha,\u201d said Kim Litwack, dean of the 51ÁÔÆæ College of Nursing. \u201cThe College of Nursing has always been recognized for our innovation and collaboration with various community agencies. I look forward to strengthening our relationships in southeastern Wisconsin.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>51ÁÔÆæ College of General Studies Dean Simon Bronner said, &#8220;We are welcoming the College of Nursing with open arms to 51ÁÔÆæ at Waukesha. The partnership with our colleges allows students to complete their four-year nursing degree closer to home and serve the needs of our growing communities in the region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This expansion comes when demand for health care professionals in Waukesha and surrounding counties continue to grow. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waukesha.org\/employer-collaboratives\/healthcare\/\">Waukesha-Ozaukee-Washington Workforce Development Board<\/a>, health care employment in those three counties is expected to increase by 16% \u2013 an additional 13,000 workers \u2013 by 2022.<\/p>\n<p>In fall 2021, the nursing program will admit up to 32 students to begin clinical practice. Applicants should have two years of pre-nursing coursework completed by next fall to be eligible to apply to the professional major program for fall 2021.
