{"id":86897,"date":"2020-10-26T14:36:28","date_gmt":"2020-10-26T19:36:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=86897"},"modified":"2024-09-27T10:00:15","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T15:00:15","slug":"uwm-joins-m-cubed-partners-to-talk-about-meeting-student-needs-during-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/uwm-joins-m-cubed-partners-to-talk-about-meeting-student-needs-during-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"51ÁÔÆæ joins M-Cubed partners to talk about meeting student needs during pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>51ÁÔÆæ Chancellor Mark Mone will join his M<sup>3 <\/sup>partnership counterparts to discuss how Milwaukee\u2019s three largest public education institutions are meeting the needs of students during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/m-cubed\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">M<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup><\/a>(pronounced M-Cubed) is a joint initiative among 51ÁÔÆæ, Milwaukee Area Technical College and Milwaukee Public Schools aimed at closing equity gaps and transforming the future of young people through education.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, the partnership starts a <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/m%c2%b3-leaders-to-discuss-meeting-urgent-needs-of-students-during-covid-19\/\">new virtual discussion series<\/a>, M<sup>3<\/sup> | Education Transformed. Mone, MATC President Vicki Martin and MPS Superintendent Keith Posley will share how the institutions are adapting to the COVID-19 environment, meeting student needs and staying on track to help even more students succeed. Wednesday&#8217;s event will be at 2 p.m. <a href=\"https:\/\/us02web.zoom.us\/webinar\/register\/WN_R6h7-sRORticot4CL2z1Tw?_x_zm_rtaid=dqmth7w_RdmoL35D8bEXJQ.1603728375046.96153f4cda1c224e1161f596741f5383&amp;_x_zm_rhtaid=343\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">via Zoom<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The institutions collectively serve more than 100,000 students. The partnership has helped increase MPS high school graduation rates, helped more students prepare for college by completing the FAFSA and increased the number of MPS graduates going directly to college.<\/p>\n<p>Planning for M<sup>3 <\/sup>began in 2015. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/m-cubed\/news\/m%c2%b3-is-committed-to-closing-equity-gaps-so-all-students-succeed\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">multifaceted partnership<\/a> seeks to close equity gaps by working to achieve goals in three areas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Connecting learning across middle school, high school and college, such as creating ties in curriculum in English, science and math<\/li>\n<li>Successfully transitioning students to college<\/li>\n<li>Driving college completion, through ways such as increasing FAFSA completion and expanding scholarship opportunities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One of M<sup>3<\/sup>\u2019s most visible initiatives is an <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/m-cubed-honors-2020-class-of-mps-seniors-graduating-with-early-college-credit\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">early college program<\/a> designed to give MPS students a taste of college life by taking courses at 51ÁÔÆæ and MATC. Students can earn up\u00a0to 20 transferable college credits in core courses including math, English and science, as well as electives including cultures and community and educational
