The Southeast Wisconsin Festival of Books will continue its longstanding tradition, but virtually and in a more limited way this year.<\/p>\n

The event, a project of the 51ÁÔÆæ at Waukesha Foundation for the past 11 years, traditionally brings the community together to encourage literacy, author-to-reader collaboration, and creativity through arts and entertainment.<\/p>\n

On Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. authors Ellyn Lem and Anne Basting will talk about their new books about aging in an event via Zoom<\/a>. Lem is professor of English and gender studies and director of the Honors Program in the College of General Studies. Basting, a MacArthur Foundation \u201cgenius grant\u201d recipient, is professor of English in the College of Letters & Science.<\/p>\n

Lem is the author of \u201cGray Matters: Finding Meaning in the Stories of Later Life<\/a>,\u201d a book that she wrote following research with Waukesha area seniors. Basting is the author of \u201cCreative Care: A Revolutionary Approach to Dementia and Elder Care<\/a>.\u201d They will discuss their books, and talk about the joys, pitfalls and new ways of aging in our culture.<\/p>\n

The virtual lineup this year included a number of contests and events during October and November, including\u00a0the Century Fence-sponsored student essay and poetry contests for middle and high school students, the Duane Stein short story contest for high school students throughout Wisconsin, co-sponsorship of a\u00a0Waukesha Reads<\/a>\u00a0panel (Oct. 27) and a partnership with\u00a0Oconomowoc-based Books & Company<\/a>, which will host virtual presentations with five authors introducing new books.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
