Qandil also took home the Distinguished Dissertator Award. Only six students received awards in this nationwide competition open to students and alumni from 31 IACs.<\/p>\n<p>Department of Energy-funded IACs train the next generation of energy engineers and the awards recognize outstanding accomplishments in researching and promoting practices, principles and procedures that increase a company\u2019s efficiency and productivity.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_85007\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-85007\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-85007\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2020\/08\/IAC-Qandil-1iac250x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-85007\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Mohammad Qandil<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uwm.edu\/ceas-iac\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s IAC<\/a>, Wisconsin\u2019s sole site, is under the direction of Ryo Amano, professor of mechanical engineering. The center provides free, in-depth energy assessments to small- and medium-sized manufacturers and utilities. The goal is to increase their productivity and competitiveness by reducing energy and water consumption, enhancing cybersecurity and adopting smart manufacturing technology.<\/p>\n<p>To date, more than 600 companies and water treatment plants have used the center\u2019s services. On average, they received energy-consumption recommendations to save about $150,000 annually, higher than the national IAC average of $130,000.<\/p>\n<p>The 51ÁÔÆæ IAC, Amano said, has achieved annual savings for Wisconsin manufacturers of 41 million kilowatt hours, 98,000 killowatts of demand and 3.5 million therms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. Department of Energy
