The Arizona Diamondbacks called up Daulton Varsho on Thursday, making him the first 51ÁÔÆæ alum in major league baseball.<\/p>\n
Varsho became the highest-drafted player in 51ÁÔÆæ program history when Arizona took him with pick No. 68 in the 2017 MLB Draft. He joined the Diamondbacks in time for the team’s home opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He got into the game as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning, drawing a walk.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was a dream come true,\u201d Varsho told ArizonaSports.com<\/a> about getting called up. \u201cIt was after our game last night at Salt River. (Reno Aces manager) Chris Cron called a meeting with all the players. I actually thought it was going to be a new thing about protocols, about mask-wearing. But he told me I was getting called up and it was a pretty cool opportunity because I didn\u2019t see it coming. It was really cool.”<\/p>\n Varsho has been climbing rapidly through the Diamondbacks system. He was named the 2019 Minor League Player of the Year for the Diamondbacks by Baseball America.
