{"id":77777,"date":"2019-12-04T16:13:31","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T22:13:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=77777"},"modified":"2019-12-05T09:41:38","modified_gmt":"2019-12-05T15:41:38","slug":"with-new-security-in-place-early-arrival-encouraged-for-uwm-commencement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/with-new-security-in-place-early-arrival-encouraged-for-uwm-commencement\/","title":{"rendered":"With new security in place, early arrival encouraged for 51ÁÔÆæ commencement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Those who plan to attend 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s fall commencement Dec. 15 are being encouraged to arrive early because new Wisconsin Center District security screening procedures will likely slow the admittance process.<\/p>\n<p>Doors open at 8 a.m. <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/more-than-2100-to-receive-degrees-at-uwm-graduation-dec-15\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">for the 10 a.m. ceremony<\/a> at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time at a 51ÁÔÆæ commencement, guests will go through metal detectors and bags will be subject to search. Guests are not allowed to bring in such things as weapons, large banners, beverages, coolers, beach balls and other items listed on the <a href=\"http:\/\/wcd.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/191014-SecurityProhibitedItemsList.pdf\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">Wisconsin Center District website<\/a>. One exception: Families will be allowed to bring in video recording devices to capture their graduates\u2019 big moment.<\/p>\n<p>There will be 8,900 seats available for guests in the 51ÁÔÆæ Panther Arena. Another 4,000 seats will be available for overflow in the adjacent Miller High Life Theatre, where the ceremony will be livestreamed.<\/p>\n<p>Guests can enter the 51ÁÔÆæ Panther Arena at the south entrance, along West Kilbourn Avenue. Graduates enter through the doors on the east end of the south entrance.
