{"id":72612,"date":"2019-06-25T14:13:17","date_gmt":"2019-06-25T19:13:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=72612"},"modified":"2024-09-27T10:02:09","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T15:02:09","slug":"south-carolina-delegation-visits-uwm-to-learn-about-m-cubed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/south-carolina-delegation-visits-uwm-to-learn-about-m-cubed\/","title":{"rendered":"South Carolina delegation visits 51ÁÔÆæ to learn about M-cubed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A delegation from Aiken County, South Carolina, public schools visited the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee campus to learn about M<sup>3 <\/sup>, the multifaceted collaboration among 51ÁÔÆæ,\u00a0Milwaukee Area Technical College and Milwaukee Public Schools focused on improving educational attainment.<\/p>\n<p>The South Carolina delegation met Monday with 51ÁÔÆæ Chancellor Mark Mone along with other campus officials about M<sup>3 <\/sup>(pronounced M-cubed), which graduated its <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/first-class-of-m-cubed-early-college-students-graduates\/\">inaugural Early College pilot program<\/a> class of 32 students last month. (51ÁÔÆæ Photo\/Elora Hennessey)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Representatives from the University of South Carolina-Aiken, Aiken Technical College and the Aiken County Public School District heard about various M<sup>3 <\/sup>goals, which include boosting student achievement, ensuring students have necessary resources to advance to college and into the workforce, and closing the equity gap in educational attainment.<\/p>\n<p>Aiken County officials first learned about M<sup>3 <\/sup>after MPS Superintendent Keith Posley, MATC President Vicki Martin and 51ÁÔÆæ Associate Vice Chancellor Phyllis King were invited to make a presentation about the partnership <a href=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/m-cubed\/news\/m%C2%B3-leaders-showcase-program-model-to-national-audience\/\">to a joint meeting in March<\/a> of the American Association of Community Colleges and AASA: The School Superintendents Association.<\/p>\n<p>About 160 MPS students have applied for the Early College program for the 2019-2020 school year, when enrollment is expected to at least triple in size. Students who complete the dual enrollment program earn 10 college credits, including four MATC math credits, three MATC English language arts credits and three 51ÁÔÆæ educational psychology class.
