Denise Ross has been named chair of the UW System Institute for Urban Education, a program housed at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She will begin her appointment later this year.<\/p>\n

Denise Ross<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Ross will come to 51ÁÔÆæ from Western Michigan University, where she is an associate professor in psychology. Her research focuses on developing language and literacy interventions for\u00a0economically marginalized children and adults. Ross has established or led about 20 professional development partnerships with school districts in New York, Chicago, South Florida and Kalamazoo, Michigan.<\/p>\n

Ross earned master\u2019s and doctoral degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University with a major in special education and a specialization in applied behavior analysis. She received her bachelor\u2019s degree in secondary education from Spelman College.<\/p>\n

The UW System Institute for Urban Education<\/a> is dedicated to advancing the field of urban education and to recruit, promote and retain high quality educators for urban districts.\u00a0The institute\u2019s initiatives include a voluntary preparation program for teacher candidates who want to teach in an urban setting within Milwaukee Public Schools, professional development opportunities and research collaborations across UW System institutions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
