{"id":66489,"date":"2019-01-22T14:05:47","date_gmt":"2019-01-22T20:05:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=66489"},"modified":"2024-09-27T10:02:14","modified_gmt":"2024-09-27T15:02:14","slug":"zilber-school-of-public-health-wins-2019-healthy-living-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/zilber-school-of-public-health-wins-2019-healthy-living-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Zilber School of Public Health wins 2019 Healthy Living Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 51ÁÔÆæ Zilber School of Public Health has been named as the recipient of the 2019 YMCA Healthy Living Award.<\/p>\n<p>The award, presented on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, recognizes organizations that encapsulate King\u2019s devotion to ensuring equality for all, by improving health and well-being across the board.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are humbled by this prestigious recognition of the Zilber School of Public Health. We accept this award with gratitude and a commitment to continue to strive to honor the spirit of the Y\u2019s Healthy Living Award,\u201d said Ronald Perez, interim dean of the Zilber School.<\/p>\n<p>The Zilber School was honored at the YMCA\u2019s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast, \u00a0attended by over 600 civic, business, community and faith leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Work in the Zilber School of Public Health includes improving health equity, social and environmental justice in both regional and national communities, advocacy for health-promoting policies and more. Faculty and students within the School of Public Health also conduct research initiatives in areas such as mental health, obesity and infant mortality through collaborations with local groups and individuals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough we are a relatively new school, we\u2019re already having a tremendous impact,\u201d Renee Walker, associate professor of community and behavioral health promotion, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bHJrDOXgDX4\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">says in a video<\/a> accompanying the award. \u201cReceiving the Healthy Living Award is a testament to that. Ultimately, that is why the School of Public Health exists, and why we do what we do. We want to make a difference in the lives of individuals, of families and of the communities we work with.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Zilber School of Public Health is one of two institutions being honored for their longstanding commitment in supporting health, wellness and inclusion.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The award, presented on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, recognizes
