Colleen Galambos, the Helen Bader Endowed Chair in Applied Gerontology, has been appointed to a committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine that will examine loneliness and social isolation in older adults.<\/p>\n

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine are nonprofit, private institutions that assist in providing expert and objective advice on prominent issues around the globe such as health and medicine, the environment, technology and education.<\/p>\n

As part of the Committee on the Health and Medical Dimensions of Social Isolation and Loneliness in Older Adults<\/a>, Galambos will assist in the examination of the effects of social isolation and loneliness on health outcomes in adults aged 50 and older, particularly those in underserved and low-income environments.<\/p>\n

Committee tasks also include providing recommendations on interventions for social isolation that can be incorporated into clinical environments. Galambos will apply her knowledge of clinical care, health care systems and social and recreational services to advance the work of the committee.<\/p>\n

Galambos\u2019 expertise and interests focus in long-term care for older adults, care transitions, end-of-life care, gerontechnology, interdisciplinary collaboration and competency-based education.<\/p>\n

Galambos joined the faculty at the Helen Bader School of Welfare in 2018 and has held multiple leadership roles among organizations such as the International Society of Gerontechnology and the National Academies Consensus Study Social Work Group. Her work and research are featured in several books and over 115 publications.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
