MILWAUKEE _ One of the best places in America to study filmmaking is the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\u2019s Peck School of the Arts. That\u2019s the takeaway from a survey of industry insiders published by The Hollywood Reporter.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0news\u00a0comes as the Peck School’s\u00a0Department of Film, Video, Animation & New Genres\u00a0adds a new bachelor of fine arts degree in animation and prepares for the forthcoming opening of a satellite film-department location in a state-of-the-arts creative hub opening in downtown Milwaukee next month.<\/p>\n
Top 25 film school The Reporter\u2019s write-up gives a nod to film program alumni\u00a0Eric Haywood\u00a0and\u00a0Caroline Kastelic, of \u201cEmpire\u201d and \u201cRobot Chicken,\u201d respectively.<\/p>\n 51ÁÔÆæ\u00a0also made The Hollywood Reporter list in\u00a02011\u00a0and was named a Top 50 film program by another survey of filmmakers and educators in\u00a02017.<\/p>\n New digs in No Studios<\/strong> \u201cStudents in our pre-professional practice courses will be working and creating at No Studios alongside top local and national creative talent,\u201d said Peck School of the Arts Dean Scott Emmons.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong>New BFA in animation<\/strong> \u201cThe new bachelor of arts degree in animation really formalizes something the school has been doing well and is known for,\u201d Emmons said. \u201cWe\u2019re excited to see how the program will grow and take shape just in the next two to three semesters.\u201d<\/p>\n Faculty and alumni animation credits include \u201cThe Simpsons,\u201d \u201cThe Nightmare Before Christmas,\u201d \u201cRobot Chicken\u201d and \u201cAnomalisa.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" MILWAUKEE _ One of the best places in America to study filmmaking is the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee\u2019s Peck School of the Arts. \n<\/strong>The Peck School of the Arts film program\u00a0was ranked\u00a0No. 24\u00a0in The Hollywood Reporter’s 2018 ranking of \u201cTop 25 American Film Schools.\u201d The magazine says that it \u201cranked the best of the best based on not just how much tech they have but also the quality of their faculty and facilities, their reputations in the industry and the achievements of their graduates.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe department\u2019s documentary filmmaking program,\u00a0doc|51ÁÔÆæ, will relocate to\u00a0No Studios\u00a0in October. Other tenants will include Milwaukee Film, the Milwaukee Filmmakers Alliance and an office for No Studios CEO John Ridley, an Oscar-winning writer, director and producer based in Los Angeles but originally from Milwaukee.<\/p>\n
\nBack on campus, faculty and alumni of the Film, Video, Animation & New Genres department helped lay the groundwork for a degree-level animation concentration within the program. Fall 2018 marks the first time students can specialize in animation within the Peck School\u00a0and\u00a0earn a degree in the discipline.<\/p>\n
