{"id":62554,"date":"2018-09-18T14:33:04","date_gmt":"2018-09-18T19:33:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/?p=62554"},"modified":"2018-09-18T14:33:04","modified_gmt":"2018-09-18T19:33:04","slug":"foxconn-day-at-uwm-draws-hundreds-of-job-seekers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/foxconn-day-at-uwm-draws-hundreds-of-job-seekers\/","title":{"rendered":"Foxconn Day at 51ÁÔÆæ draws hundreds of job-seekers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some 350 people came to the 51ÁÔÆæ Student Union on Monday seeking information and interviews from Foxconn, the Taiwanese electronics manufacturer.<\/p>\n<p>Foxconn is looking to hire thousands of workers for a massive plant it is building in Racine County, a headquarters in downtown Milwaukee and other facilities in Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<p>Current students, alumni and the public were invited to 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s Foxconn Day to inquire about jobs at the company. Some were able to conduct video interviews. Foxconn is looking for workers in sales, marketing, accounting and financial analysis.<\/p>\n<p>Workers with backgrounds in social sciences and other less technical fields can drive innovation, Yeung said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNowadays, in the 21st century, innovation, technology, applications don\u2019t just come from engineers and computer scientists,\u201d Yeung said.<\/p>\n<p>Yeung invited the 51ÁÔÆæ Foxconn Day attendees to check out <a href=\"https:\/\/foxconnjobs.us\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the company\u2019s hiring portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Chancellor Mark Mone said Foxconn fits in well with the role 51ÁÔÆæ plays in Wisconsin\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou think about the quality and the size of the talent pipeline,\u201d Mone said. \u201cUW-Milwaukee has 185,000 alumni, 85 percent of whom are still in Wisconsin.
