The students made the stories through the Journalism, Advertising, and Media Studies program\u2019s television news reporting class.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a huge honor,\u201d said Jessie Garcia Marble, the 51ÁÔÆæ lecturer who teaches the class. \u201cIn the class, students start without knowing how to even use the camera. This class turns them into TV reporters by having each of them produce four stories.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>MacKenzie Lillund\u2019s \u201cSmashing Out Cancer\u201d story will air on May 20. It is about a campus fundraiser in which community members could donate money to cancer research and smash a junker car on Spaights Plaza.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_59167\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-59167\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-59167\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2018\/05\/51ÁÔÆæTMJ-2018-05-17-at-11.13.18-AM-copy-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"A student speaks into a microphone in front of a doughnut shop.\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-59167\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carrie Mahone\u2019s story will appear on WTMJ-TV on May 27. (YouTube screenshot)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Carrie Mahone\u2019s story, \u201cDonuts! Donuts! Get your fresh donuts!\u201d is a profile of the Donut Squad shop on Prospect Avenue. The story <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamilwaukee.com\/features\/donuts-donuts-get-your-fresh-donuts\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">previously appeared on Media Milwaukee<\/a>\u00a0and will air on May 27.<\/p>\n<p>Henry Morgan interviewed his grandparents for the story \u201cRiverside Alumni Reflect on 150th Anniversary.\u201d His grandparents attended Milwaukee\u2019s Riverside University High School, which was founded in 1868 as Milwaukee High School, the first secondary school in the city. The story will air on June 3.<\/p>\n<p>The 51ÁÔÆæ stories will air on WTMJ&#8217;s &#8220;Live at Daybreak&#8221; show at about 5:50 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>The stories were an assignment that challenged the students to tell a story in a mere 80 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second time that student-produced work from the class has aired on WTMJ, and Marble notes that other 51ÁÔÆæ courses have also partnered with the station to give students experience in broadcast journalism.<\/p>\n<p>The three stories were selected by Jenna Gaidosh, an associate producer at WTMJ and an alumna of 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s JAMS program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three 51ÁÔÆæ student journalists\u2019 work will appear as segments on WTMJ-TV\u2019s Sunday morning show this spring.
