Sarah Morgan, director of 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s Nursing Learning Resource Center, will receive the Bayard Rustin Award from LGBT nonprofit agency Diverse & Resilient. It will be presented March 30 at Diverse & Resilient\u2019s annual\u00a0Reviving the Dream Celebration<\/a>.<\/p>\n

51ÁÔÆæ’s Sarah Morgan is receiving the Bayard Rustin Award from Diverse & Resilient.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Morgan is being recognized for her leadership and contributions in the community. She joined the Diverse & Resilient board in 2008 and served as board chair from 2011 to 2014. Diverse & Resilient works to address the health disparities experienced by LGBT people in Wisconsin.<\/p>\n

\u201cThrough her volunteer service, education and research, Sarah has sought to elevate the recognition of the unique lived experiences of Wisconsin\u2019s LGBT+ residents,\u201d said Warren Scherer, director of 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s Inclusive Excellence Center and a member of Diverse & Resilient\u2019s board of directors.<\/p>\n

A leader in the civil rights movement, Bayard Rustin was a mentor and adviser to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the chief organizer of the historic 1963 March on Washington. Rustin had to work behind the scenes because he was an openly gay man during a deeply hostile era. The Bayard Rustin Award honors his legacy of working behind the scenes to improve people\u2019s lives through social justice.<\/p>\n

Gerald Coon, president and CEO of Diverse & Resilient, said Morgan was nominated \u201cfollowing a long discussion about people in the community who really embody the spirit of the award, especially working behind the scenes as Bayard Rustin did.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
