Every year since 2006, the contest had awarded prize money to student entrepreneurs who can enter from any discipline on campus. This year\u2019s event, funded by La Macchia Enterprises, doled out $18,500 in accordance with these results:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_45949\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-45949\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-45949\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2017\/03\/MatherFinal-250x300.jpg\" alt=\"Jordan Mather won the grand prize of $8,000 in the New Ventures Business Plan Competition, hosted by the Lubar School of Business.\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-45949\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jordan Mather won the grand prize of $8,000 in the New Ventures Business Plan Competition, hosted by the Lubar School of Business.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Grand Prize, $8,000<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Health Connection<\/strong>\u2019s Snapchat-like mobile platform, Health Snaps, enables health care providers to communicate with their patients through instructional videos, messaging and visual progress tools. Unlike Snapchat, the app allows patients to store and keep shared information. <em>(Jordan Mather, senior, marketing)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Second Prize, $4,000<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Zen Gen Yoga <\/strong>is a family-focused yoga studio that will feature environmentally\u00a0friendly products and practices.\u00a0<em>(Brandi Hayes-Fink, senior, marketing,<\/em> and <em>Alisyn Vermey, junior, kinesiology)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Third Prize (tie), $2,000 each<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>AlphaCore Solutions<\/strong> is a technical project management service\u00a0that provides commercial prototype guidance for engineering and design initiatives using an established network of experienced subcontractors. <em>(Alex Francis, Ali Bakhshinejad <\/em>and <em>Robert Morien Jr., graduate students, mechanical engineering)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>BookLive<\/strong> is a mobile and web app that connects entertainers and public speakers with clients and event planners. <em>(Jared Judge, graduate student, music).<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Five additional teams received $500 honorable mention awards.<\/p>\n<p>Judges and mentors for this year\u2019s competition included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Alan Katz, president, Katz Consulting<\/li>\n<li>Jim Hunter, Bostrom entrepreneur-in-residence, 51ÁÔÆæ Lubar School of Business<\/li>\n<li>Satish Nambisan, professor, joint appointment, 51ÁÔÆæ Lubar School of Business and College of Engineering and Applied Science<\/li>\n<li>Paul Stewart, Bostrom entrepreneur-in-residence, 51ÁÔÆæ Lubar School of Business<\/li>\n<li>Abby Taubner, manager, gener8tor<\/li>\n<li>Jude Anders, consultant, Shoreline Concepts LLC<\/li>\n<li>Ellie Berg, S.
