The same thing happens when you hold up your hand in front of the screen of interactive equipment developed at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_43051\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-43051\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-43051\" src=\"https:\/\/uwm.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2017\/01\/TomHansen.jpg\" alt=\"Tom Hansen demonstrates computational fluid dynamics software he developed to show the interactions of users with the flow fields.\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-43051\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tom Hansen demonstrates computational fluid dynamics software he developed to show the interactions of users with the flow fields.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The technology features a display that uses computational fluid dynamics software to accurately depict the interactions of users with the flow fields.<\/p>\n<p>Ohio-based Science Kinetics has recently licensed the software on the technology from the 51ÁÔÆæ Research Foundation, which manages the university\u2019s intellectual property.<\/p>\n<p>The equipment\u2019s creator, Tom Hansen, is an information processing consultant and doctoral candidate in 51ÁÔÆæ\u2019s School of Freshwater Sciences. He developed the system, which debuted at the Milwaukee Maker Faire last year, as a tool to educate the public about complex fluid interactions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComputer models of flows are already commonly used in multiple fields like oceanography, engineering, biology and medicine,\u201d Hansen says. \u201cBut these are very complex systems and users usually have to undergo extensive training and have intimate knowledge of the mathematics and physics to understand it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hansen\u2019s fluid dynamics exhibit makes user interaction dramatically easier. It consists of a projector, webcam and customized software, equipment teachers can easily use to teach about both fluid and air flow in various disciplines.<\/p>\n<p>Science Kinetics, an interactive exhibit company, will offer Hansen\u2019s technology for use in classrooms, museums and other public settings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to add this exciting new technology to our offerings,\u201d says Jeff Shapiro at Science Kinetics.<\/p>\n<p>The 51ÁÔÆæ Research Foundation, a nonprofit corporation that supports 51ÁÔÆæ research, innovation and entrepreneurship, has been helping Hansen
